Your child might have logged into another gamer’s account without their permission
Hacking is when someone remotely gain access into an account that does not belong to them. They bypass the security aspects, such as passwords and find a back door into the account.
People hack for many reasons. Some of the most common reasons include:
Stealing personal data: Trying to get someone’s personal data such as banking information, passwords, social media accounts, and other personal data.
Revenge: Someone might hack for the purpose of revenge. They use the information with the purpose of exposing or embarrassing the victim.
Blackmail: Stolen information is used to blackmail an individual into giving them money, sending or publishing compromising or sexually explicit images or in some cases, breaking the law.
There are a few different types of hackers:
- Script Kids: These are young kids who are “having fun” on the internet. They are looking to mess with other kids, or mess around on websites or networks for “fun”.
- Recreational “hackers”: These are people who are really good with computers who intrude on networks when they feel they have a valid reason to do so in their mind. They aim to disrupt a website or network due to holding a grudge.
- Professionals: These are expert hackers.
Tips to avoid hacking

- If other gamers are talking about someone’s account or hacking a friends account, it can be considered unethical and illegal and they can get banned from the game
