Sexual Content Recommendations

In the past week, your child was exposed to sexual insults in the game.

Tips for conversation for Sexual Content (6-10):

1. Note: when predatory behavior is suspected, parents are notified and the exact wording of the comment is shared.

2. Explain to your child that you were notified that another gamer had said some words to them or other gamers in their group that were sexual (or adjust your language for younger children: “rude words and words having to do with private body parts.”)

3. Ask them what they heard and how they felt about it.

4. Let them know that kids sometimes like to act older than they are or try to be shocking with their language.

Assess whether this sexual language had any impact on your child and adjust your response accordingly.

5. You can let them know that they can talk to you if they have questions about the words they hear at school or online. This can open up discussion about what language is acceptable for your kids to use. Also, when you show your child that you can have a matter-of-fact discussion about sexual content, it lets them know they can talk with you comfortably about this issue. (Do it even if you ARE uncomfortable!)

6. If one of their friends is using this language, encourage them to speak up and tell their friend to stop, because they could be making people feel uncomfortable.

7. If this happens repeatedly, you may need to re-evaluate whether this game (or this group of players) is appropriate for your child.
