Tips for Conversation about Threatening Behavior

1. Let your child know that you have heard several times that other gamers are making threatening comments towards them or other gamers they are playing with. Find out what is being said, and what your child thinks and feels about it.

2. Talk with your child about blocking and reporting the other players.

3. Since this keeps happening, assess whether this game (or group of gamers) is right for your child. This will depend on your child’s age and your values and preferences as a family.

4. One concern with hearing threatening language frequently is that your child can become hardened to it and begin to think of it as normal behavior. Let them know you don’t want that to happen and suggest that they mute the other players if they really want to continue playing the game.
